It is thus important to undergo liver detox so that the liver would be able to perform its role efficiently. Before undergoing a liver detox, it is important to have a kidney and colon cleanse initially. When the liver is removed of all the toxins, they will pass through the kidney and colon. There may be a possibility that the toxins will block these organs and when this happens, serious health problems may occur.

A good drink to detoxify the liver is a juice made of grapefruit, lemon, crushed vitamin C tablet, half a teaspoon of olive oil and Epsom salts of not more than four tablespoons. Upon waking up in the morning, one should eat only fruits and vegetables in the first six hours followed by the drink above. He should then fast the whole day after the sixth hour. A second glass of this drink should be taken after four hours of the fast while the third one should be taken before sleeping at night.

In sleeping, the person must lie on his right side for the rest of the night. If this is not possible, he must lie on this side for just an hour. The liver would be able to soak up the mixture taken. The next morning, he must eat the way he does normally. He should also take in plenty of water in the succeeding days so that the toxins will finally be eliminated from the entire body.

It is important to also drink at least 8 glass of water a day to detoxify the liver. Foods eaten should contain plenty of fiber as this attaches itself to the impurities in the digestive tract and are flushed out of the body through defecation. Without fiber in the body, the toxins go back to the blood and through the liver again for reprocessing. This makes the liver work overtime and will somehow become worn out eventually. Fiber-enriched foods are raspberry, fava beans, whole grains and barley. Cranberry juice in its concentrated form should be drunk daily as this will also help detoxify the liver. Cranberry removes toxins and bacteria in the kidney and has tannin that removes from the blood the bad cholesterol accumulated.
